What Happens During Your Discover Phase

Your initial meeting isn’t a sales pitch—it’s the beginning of a mutual evaluation. Here’s what you can expect:

We Listen (First 20 Minutes)

You’ll share your background, current situation, and what prompted you to seek planning guidance. Tell us about:

  • Your current financial picture (rough overview, not a detailed audit)
  • Your major life goals and timeline
  • What concerns or uncertainties brought you to reach out
  • Your experience with financial advice in the past (if any)

Our advisor will take notes, ask clarifying questions, and listen far more than they talk.

We Discuss Your Goals (Middle 20 Minutes)

Understanding your targets and missions is foundational to our process. We’ll explore:

  • What does a successful financial future look like for you?
  • When do you envision your “day of freedom” (or work-optional lifestyle)?
  • What lifestyle, activities, or legacy matters most to you?
  • Are there major financial decisions you’re facing (sale of a business, inheritance, career change)?
  • What’s your relationship with money and financial decisions?

This isn’t about product recommendations. It’s about understanding you.

We Share Our Approach (Final 15–20 Minutes)

We’ll explain our proprietary process, the Freedom Formula, our philosophy about wealth planning, and what a potential advisory relationship would look like. We’ll also be honest about:

  • Whether your situation aligns with our expertise
  • Who we work best with and how we determine fit
  • Our service model, fees, and ongoing relationship structure
  • Next steps if there’s mutual interest

This isn’t about product recommendations. It’s about understanding you.

Questions & Conversation

Your questions matter. Ask about our team, our values, our process, fees, or anything else on your mind. We provide our clients with confidence and purposeful direction for their future through a process called the Freedom FORMula.

Meeting Duration: Plan for 45–60 minutes. We’re not rushed; we schedule these conversations with proper time.

How We Determine Fit

At Freedom Wealth Planning, we understand that our services are not the right fit for everyone, nor is that our intention. This mutual evaluation is core to our philosophy.

What We're Looking For

We’re the best fit for clients who:

  • Value comprehensive, long-term planning over quick fixes or sales pitches
  • Appreciate an advisor who will give honest feedback, even if it’s not what they want to hear
  • Seek a deeply engaged, collaborative relationship
  • Align with our values: Faith & Family First, Radical Honesty, Extreme Accountability, Attitude of Gratitude, Sempre Improvidus
  • Have substantial financial complexity or are on the cusp of major life transitions
  • Want ongoing accountability and professional guidance, not a one-time plan

 What You're Evaluating

Use this conversation to assess:

  • Do you feel heard and understood?
  • Are they asking about your goals, or do they already have a product to sell you?
  • Do their values and approach resonate with yours?
  • Is the advisor credentialed and experienced? (Jared Reynolds is CFP®, CPWA®, CEPA®, CPFA®)
  • Can you envision a long-term working relationship with this person?
  • Do you understand their service model and fee structure?

Radical Honesty About Fit

If, at the end of our conversation, we don’t think we’re a good fit, we’ll tell you. Instead, we focus on being the right advisory team for the right clients. Rather than accept a client relationship that won’t serve you well, we may:

  • Suggest a different advisor or firm that might be better suited to your needs
  • Recommend you revisit planning in a few years when circumstances change
  • Acknowledge that we’re not the right specialist for your specific situation

Conversely, if you don’t feel alignment, that’s completely valid. There’s no obligation.

Scheduling Your Consultation

Choose Your Format

 In-Person (Recommended)

• Columbia, MO: 1000 W Nifong Blvd, Bldg. #3, Ste. 220
• Sarasota, FL: 1343 Main Street, Ste. 705

In-person meetings allow for a deeper connection and give you a feel for our office environment. You'll be welcomed into a deeply engaged environment where we listen carefully to your situation.

Video Call (Ideal for Remote Clients)

We're comfortable meeting via Zoom or Google Meet if in-person isn't practical. Video calls are nearly as effective as in-person meetings for initial conversations.

Phone Call (Quick Conversation)

If you prefer a 20–30 minute phone screening before committing to a longer meeting, we can arrange that. However, we recommend scheduling the full 45–60 minute conversation when you're ready to have a deeper discussion.

Preferred Contact Method

After you schedule, how should we reach you to confirm?

  • Email
  • Phone
  • Text

We’ll send a confirmation email with your appointment details, a Zoom link (if applicable), and a brief guide on what to prepare.

What to Prepare for Your Meeting

Honestly, there’s no formal preparation required. Many clients find it helpful to jot down:

Quick Notes (Optional, Not Required)

Major life milestones coming up: marriage, children, business sale, inheritance, career change, health events, relocation

  • Financial “hot spots”: debt, cash flow concerns, investment performance questions, tax situations
  • Your ideal timeline: When do you envision stepping away from work (your “day of freedom”)?
  • People in your financial life: accountant, attorney, insurance agent, current financial advisor (if applicable)

Documents (Not Necessary Today, But Helpful)

If you’d like to reference them during our conversation, you’re welcome to have nearby:

  • Recent statements from retirement accounts (401k, IRA, etc.)
  • Taxable investment account statements
  • Real estate information (property value, mortgage details)
  • Insurance policies (life, disability, umbrella)
  • Current tax return or year-to-date tax information (if you have it handy)

Don’t stress about gathering these. This first conversation is about understanding your situation, not conducting a full financial audit. We can request detailed information later if there’s a good fit and you want to move forward.

Mindset

Come with an open mind, but also with healthy skepticism. You’re interviewing us as much as we’re assessing fit. Bring your questions.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a cost for this initial consultation?

No. Your first consultation is complimentary. There’s no charge for us to meet, listen, and have an honest conversation about whether we’re a fit.

Not for the first meeting. We’re gathering a high-level understanding of your situation. If we mutually decide to work together, we’ll request detailed information as part of the engagement process.

Perfect. Many clients reach out when they’re 1–3 years from their “day of freedom” and want to start the conversation early. Exploring now is exactly what we recommend.

Absolutely. Life happens. If you need to reschedule, just let us know at least 48 hours in advance, and we’ll find another time that works.

If there’s mutual interest in moving forward, we’ll discuss:

  • Our service model (ongoing advisory relationship)
  • Fee structure and cost
  • Scope of services we’d provide
  • Timeline for a more comprehensive planning process
  • Next steps for engagement

There’s no pressure to decide on the spot. We typically allow a few days for you to reflect.

Yes. We serve clients nationwide. Physical presence in both locations allows us to serve geographic markets effectively, but we work with clients remotely via video calls, email, and our planning portal.

Freedom Wealth Planning provides panoramic wealth planning to clients who value advice, in a deeply engaged environment, with a sincere and collaborative voice.  Our founder, Jared Reynolds (CFP®, CPWA®, CEPA®, CPFA®), has deep expertise in executive compensation, business valuation, and exit planning. Our core values—Faith & Family First, Radical Honesty, Extreme Accountability, Attitude of Gratitude, Sempre Improvidus—shape everything we do. We’re selective about who we work with because we want to deliver exceptional service to the right clients.

That’s okay, and it’s common. Our initial conversation is designed to help you gain clarity. Many people reach out because they have a sense something should be better organized but aren’t sure where to start. That’s exactly what this conversation is for.

Our founder, Jared Reynolds, CFP®, CPWA®, CEPA®, CPFA®, is actively involved in client relationships. For your initial Discover Phase conversation, you may meet with Jared or another member of our advisory team. All of our advisors are trained in our philosophy and process.
